What to do on a rainy day at the beach?

The weather outside maybe gloomy but there's still plenty to keep you busy and having fun. A rainy day provides the perfect excuse for a day filled with shopping, perusing the outlets, hitting up the boutiques at Barefoot landing and visiting the local attractions.
Head over to Broadway at the Beach they have several different shops, restaurants, as well as Ripley's Aquarium, Wonder Works and IMax movie Theater. They have interactive stores that have anything from seeing taffy candy being made to creating you own race car, or making a new stuffed animal friend.
The fun can continue on with different shows; Legends in Concert, Le Grande Cirque at The Palace Theater or The Carolina Opera. Enjoy the night with a dinner show at Pirates Voyage or Medieval Times, fun for the whole family.
Or stay in and visit at the Clubhouse and checkout a board game or cards to play. Visit us for area information on these different spots.

The 24th annual Run to the Sun Car Show hit the Grand Stand area this past weekend. One of the largest in the Southeast, it brings hundreds of classic cars to Myrtle Beach for a weekend-long event. The car show kicked off with a cruise down Ocean Boulevard on March 15th and the show ran through Sunday. In addition to bringing classic-car enthusiasts from around the country together, the show raises money for the Children's Miracle Network and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society! If you enjoy classic cars, Harbour Lights Resort is the perfect place to stay during this special event!

Bluegreen / Harbour Lights is excited to be able to lend our support to this worthy and worthwhile cause by sponsoring two very special events for the soldiers while they are staying with us here in Myrtle Beach; all owners & guests are invited to attend and show these Wounded Warriors your support!

Welcome Reception at Harbour Lights Clubhouse Thursday March 8, 2012 starting at 6 PM

Farewell Dinner at Ocean Dunes/Sand Dunes, 201 74th Ave N., Tuesday March 13th ,2012 starting at 6 PM

Did you know….
Scents for Soldiers is a Non-Profit Organization...
· It was originally created to bring much needed items to the wounded warriors in military hospitals. Because these hospitals no longer accept donations addressed to “Any Soldier”, this organization takes these donations to the wounded warriors and
personally delivers them with messages of support from the community.
· Some of these soldiers have been in recovering at these hospitals for as long as two years with very little in the way of home comforts.
· Because of housing limitations, it is not unusual for a family of 5 to be expected to share a small room with two double beds and a mini fridge for more than 6 months.
· Other soldiers with no family to care for them can be placed in “efficiency apartments” where basics such as paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, etc), wash cloths, towels, food, or bed linens are not provided.
· Injured soldiers transported stateside to these hospitals do not get their personal effects from their previous location sent to them right away. The wait to have these items shipped to them can take months.
· These soldiers are recuperating mentally as much as they are physically. Many still struggle with the after effects of their experiences: they are uncomfortable with people coming up behind them, can react negatively to being touched unexpectedly and are reactive to certain noises. Please keep this in mind if you dealing with these individuals face to face.
· Scents for Soldiers works tirelessly for our service men and women year round. If you would like to donate to their worthy cause by providing items on their “wish list” or making a donation of cash or time, please bring your donations to the Front Desk or Activities Desk or pick up a brochure. Any support, great or small is mostly appreciated.

Visit From Our Friends In Flordia

During the month of February, we had a special visitor from Orlando, Florida. Our friend Brandon is the Activities Manager from The Fountains resort. He and some of his friends came to the clubhouse for a very competitive game of BINGO. Everyone walked away with a prize from their winning BINGO card except for, Brandon. So...because he is a fellow member of the activities program with Bluegreen, we gave him a treat just for trying! In this picture they pose with us showing off some of their prizes: a sand dollar candle, a spring frame, a Bluegreen coffee tumbler & a SC state flag towel. We hope they make the trip up to Myrtle Beach again sometime soon!

November Recap

The activities department created a thankful tree out of a pre-lit willow branch. Guests young & old, added to the branches with 'leaves of thanks'. Many leaves adorned the branch at the end of the month. There was a wide range of thankfulness, from 'My Parents' to 'The Mall'. The most prevalent answer? FAMILY MEMBERS!

Vacation is meant for family quality time

& the Bluegreen family loves being part of it!

We are exceedingly thankful . . . for our owners.

On Thanksgiving day, the activities department had a lovely tree lighting ceremony. In the evening, the crowd counted down & we lit our decorated evergreen tree to the sound of ooohs & ahhhhhs!

It was a nautically themed tree, of course. It remained lit for the whole holiday season. It became the focal point in our clubhouse. Santa Clauses topped the tables & a train of toys were hung over the Riverview Cargo & Trading Post Shop. The shop also featured a small animated caroling group to greet guests at the window! It was a magical holiday season!

The Pumpkins are among us!

Halloween time is here and we're all decked out with pumpkins. The smell of apples and cinnimon fill the room for this fall time of year. We have trick or treating every Saturday and face painting too. Everyone is enjoying our interactive pumpkin we have out on display. He lights up, sings and dances. It brings a smile to the guests face.

RECENT FESTIVITIES

We were soooo busy having fun, we forgot to tell everyone about Wally's Birthday Party! Our loyal gator mascot had the time of his life dancing, posing for pictures and being the general 'merry maker' with our owners & guests on the pool deck. Colorful Ways To Play staff served Wally's Cake to all the party goers! There was karaoke & a free fabulous Magic Show! A fun time was had by all! Stay tuned for more pictures! HAPPY BIRTHDAY WALLY!

CHARITY UPDATE

It has been such a busy August for us here at Harbour Lights Resort! September is already upon us but we are still having a great deal of fun!

We have already raised $99.50 for the Ronald McDonald house! Owners & guests staying here with us on their vacation, have dropped everything from pennies to $5 dollar bills in our charity jar on the counter in the clubhouse! Colorful Ways To Play Staff have been instrumental in conducting duck races & Casino games that have brought in more money for the cause! There's nothing better than having fun while you are contributing to a great cause! THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN SO GENEROUS!

One guest shared with us that when his daughter was ill, he was so thankful that the Ronald McDonald House was there to help! The house was a safe place that he & his family could stay, free of charge, while his daughter was going through treatment. The Ronald McDonald House is one way to alleviate some stress for the parents dealing with a child who has a serious illness.

Other final totals that we have sent into our Bluegreen Corporate office are: $70 for Christel House & $36 for Cystic Fibrosis. Every dollar that we collect is matched at our Corporate Office in Boca Raton Florida & that sum is then sent to each designated charity organization! Colorful Ways To Play staff is so happy to be part of this! IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING!

A MOO-stache Moustache

Milk is good for EVERYONE! You don't have to tell Harbour Lights staff, they know! Here, Bobby from maintenance tries on a milk MOO-stache on top of his natural mustache. Now Bobby's back to work after his milk break and he's full of energy!
Take the cue from Bobby & get your own MOO-stache photo taken. We'll help! Drink, grin & click! We'll vote & send one photo to corporate Bluegreen to be judged with the other resort winners! YOU could be A #1 & win the resort stay in Wisconsin! Sorry Bobby, employees aren't eligible, but we love your work!

All Hands On Deck

We have fabulous employees here at Harbour Lights resort and our seasonal staff is no exception! Many students from nearby Coastal Carolina University have taken a break for the summer to find seasonal jobs in the area. At a job fair in the Spring, Bluegreen representatives found some outstanding students to help us with Colorful Ways To Play fun!

Here is Sierra, conducting one of our moo-call contests. Sierra is a model employee, always out to lend a helping hand to her supervisors, coworkers & Harbour Lights guests. Sierra is very polite & a lot of fun to be around. We are so happy to have found her! Sierra can be seen out on the pool decks & in the clubhouse carrying out many Colorful Ways To Play Activities. Some of her favorites are: Sidewalk Chalk Contests, Hula Hooping Fun & the Charity Duck Races.

Speaking of Charity...feel like giving back? We have your 'feel good' outlet right here! This month's charity recipient for Harbour Lights is South Carolina Wildlife Federation. Throw down your dollar, pick your duck & voila'-GOOD FEELING! And if your duck wins, think of all that positive reinforcement you'll get when you receive a special prize! Young & Not-so-young Alike...

Today, there was a special visit from Tina Turner!!! Okay, it was an impersonator from Celebrations Theatre, but she definitely looked the part. Children had the opportunity to answer trivia questions about song lyrics. They simply had to 'fill in the blank' within very popular lines. "Rollin', Rollin', Rollin' on the ______". Mom & dad could help too! The kids won an adult ticket to the show for getting their answer correct! Everyone won! Afterward, Colorful Ways To Play Staff were on hand to conduct a noodle derby race & an underwater treasure hunt! These young guests never seem to get tired of games in the pool, especially treasure hunting! Winners received pool toys or a free ice cream from the clubhouse.

In the evening, a thunderstorm ruined pool fun but many guests came into the clubhouse for indoor entertainment & creativity! Charlie & the Chocolate Factory was on the big screen, tie dye was available, ice cream social began at 7 and many guests participated in a coloring contest (colorful cows for Dairy month, of course). The coloring contests have created an array of amazing colorful cows! Zoe's father participated today, along with 8 teenage guests! 3 free ice cream sundaes were given away for the winning artists. We strongly encourage you to try anything on vacation, you might like it! Colorful Ways To Play activities are fun for all ages! Try the mooooo-stache photo contest like young Micheal pictured here.

Perhaps a Charity Duck Race will make you feel young again. All proceeds benefit the South Carolina Wildlife Federation, so go ahead, race 2 ducks! QUACK!

Turtles, Lizards & Geese, OH MY!

There is a turtle who dwells in our Harbour Lights pond near Knots Bar & Grill. He waits for you under the walking bridge that crosses over the Pond. He lingers there because he loves to watch all the guest's pass by, with their wide-eyed-grins and bubbling excitement for the vacation they've been waiting for.

There is a great deal of wildlife that live here on property. Our geese are eager to honk you 'Hello'. There are a couple of family units who have flown in from Canada to warm their feathers in the Carolina Sun. They love our ponds & grasses to raise their babies. You will usually find them in their full flock, traversing the parking lots or floating in the cool fountain ponds. We enjoy our little flock & we think you will too! It's part of the whole 'Colorful Ways To Play' experience here at the Harbour Lights Bluegreen Resort!

This month, we are raising money for the South Carolina Wildlife Federation. If you would like to help, come to the clubhouse & put your 2cents in (or more). The Mission of the SCWF is to: 1.Advocate for wildlife, habitat & the environment. 2.Educate citizens in the conservation ethic. 3. Support outdoor traditions. They are currently having a photo contest...follow the link & enter your favorite SC outdoor picture! www.scwf.org

Colorful Ways To Play 'Milk Buckets Challenge'!

Have you ever wanted to toss a whole bucket of water over your best friend, sibling or parent's head? Now is your chance... with the Colorful Ways To Play 'Milk Buckets' challenge! Here's the idea: 2 opponents face off on either side of the sidewalk. Next to each person is a milk bucket full of water. Each person has 6 ping pong balls in hand to start. Each player attempt to bounce their balls into the opposite bucket. Any balls that fall in the grass are fair game to throw, until all 12 are used up. The player who gets more than 6 balls into their bucket wins & can pour both buckets of water over their opponent's head. Ahhhhhhh... it feels great in this Carolina Heat!

Above, brother & sister play against each other. Who got wet?
